A Failure in Cyprus Would Mean A European Failure - Anastasiades

cyprus

President Nicos Anastasiades said that any failure of the hard decisions taken Cyprus, would essentially be Europe's failure. The island's economy has suffered a massive setback after a bailout agreement with the Troika in which 5.8 billion euros was recouped from depositors in Bank of Cyprus and Laiki Bank. According to the Eurogroup and the government, there was no other choice if the island wanted to avoid a complete default on its obligations.

Thought for Today - Your Smile is Most Important

Of all the things you wear today your smile is the most important. Of all the things you do today the things you do with good intention will make the difference.

Of all the things you experience today your willingness will help to accept them. Today forgive yourself the many struggles you create in your mind understanding that they are based on your feelings of fear.

Road Rage

Aspects of an Island

Whenever I visit Cyprus, not as often as I would like, I always come away wanting more. It seems that the more you explore the more you find there is to explore and never enough time to do it.

Thought for Today - Bad News and Good News

cyprusnewsreportWhen you read the newspaper or listen to the radio it seems to bring you only ‘bad’ news. Wars and killings, suicides and accidents follow each other as if there is no beauty or good news to tell.

It almost looks like a competition to bring out the worse, to devastate and upset the readers, watchers or listeners.

My (Wild West) Car Accident

sarah fenwickI woke up this morning thinking it was going to be a great day, work I love, people I enjoy working with, my health, and the health of my family, plus a bright and early start for an invigorating workout at the gym.

In that spirit, I headed out on the highway towards Limassol, and just before 8am, reached the exit for Mesa Geitonia. I saw two police officers on the highway, and some cars stopped in front of them, so I slowed down and halted, waiting for the traffic to move forward.

In the back of my mind was the little voice telling me - watch out behind you in case someone doesn't slow down in time - after half a lifetime of driving in Cyprus, hyper paranoia is the kindest way I can describe the way I drive. But it all looked ok in my rear view mirror.

Mary's Dinner Club - 100th Dinner

marys dinner clubAnd yet again… a fantastic, literally ‘event-full’ weekend: herbs, a private party, a 100 celebration, Indian music… all in three days!

We started on Friday with a balcony herb growing workshop with Miranda Tringis from Cyherbia Herb Gardens whom I call the ‘herb fairy’- she is so knowledgeable and in love with all things plant. The actual beginning of her demonstration/talk was slightly delayed because we just could not stop asking her questions about our little gardening woes. And she did have an answer for every single one - she’s a walking encyclopedia really, when it comes to plants and I had been looking really forward to this event.

The herbs in my balcony’s herb corner served as models and we were all excited to find out so many little tips and tricks on how to keep them growing and healthy. The second part was spent planting our own lemon verbena into little pots the ‘proper way’. My large balcony table provided the ideal working area and we had great fun getting our hands in dirty!
