Satellite images have been released of a massive explosion at Evangelos Florakis naval base near Zygi village has killed 13 Cypriot nationals and injured 62.

At 5.55am on July 11th, there was a blast at the Evangelos Florakis base caused by high explosives stored in shipping containers. The munitions were confiscated by Cypriot authorities in 2009 after a ship was caught breaking UN sanctions by illegally carrying arms from Iran to Syria.

The satellite pictures clearly show how close the munitions were stored to the island's largest power plant, Vassiliko, and the Limassol-Nicosia highway.
