Cyprus to Build Largest East. Med Wind Park

Cyprus company D.K. Windsupply Ltd has been commissioned to build the island's first wind park by the end of 2010, and it is set to be the largest in the eastern Mediterranean, the government said today.

The project is part of Cyprus' European Union target to produce 13% of its power from renewable sources by 2020 and will be located near Kouklia village in the Paphos district.

The park will comprise 41 wind turbines for a total power output of 82 megawatts, and the European Investment Bank will contribute 65 million euros, with the Electricity Authority of Cyprus contributing 50% of a 132 kilovolt transfer substation to connect the park's power with the national grid.
