Worry Over Turkey's 'Provocation' - Greek President

Greece is worried over Turkey's 'provocations' in the Aegean and "the constant projection of unilateral and historically-unfounded claims", said Greek President Karolos Papoulias speaking at the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Greece's democracy.

Mr. Papoulias said the key to a just and viable solution in Cyprus 'lies in Ankara's hands', according to express.gr. However, he expressed pessimism, adding that "for the time being we see no desire on Turkey's part to overcome and transcend anachronistic percpetions and ethnicist rationale."

His remarks come in the wake of incursions into Greek airspace by Turkish F16 fighters in the Aegean.

Commenting further on Turkey's occupation of Cyprus, Mr. Papoulias called on the EU to contribute to healing the division on the island, "which comprises one of the greatest shames of global civilisation".
