One Dead, Two Critically Injured in Road Accidents

34-year-old Michalis Klatchias has been killed and two other men critically injured in three separate road accidents in the last 24 hours, said police today.

At 10pm last night, Mr. Klatchias was driving in Agia Marina village in Athienou when his car overturned and rolled over several times. He was killed in the impact, while his three passengers were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries. They've since been released.

None of them had been wearing seatbelts, said police.

In a separate incident in Episkopi, a 31-year-old British man is fighting for his life after a head-on collision with a car driven by a 47-year-old Greek-Cypriot, who has since been arrested for questioning.

The 41-year-old crossed into the opposite lane and veered into oncoming traffic, crashing into a car driven by the 31-year-old, who is in intensive care being treated for severe head injuries and traumas all over his body. The accident happened at 9.15 last night.

At 4.20am today, a 19-year-old man driving on Grivas Digenis Avenue in Nicosia crashed into a tree, a road sign and then into an electricity pole. He is in critical condition in Nicosia General Hospital.

Nicosia police are investigating the accident.
