Ancient Choirokitia Showcased in Festival

The village of Choirokitia launched a new annual festival on the grounds of the ancient settlement on the 4th and 5th of September. The programme of events included a tour of the site and performances from Neolithic life, as well as performances of Aristphanes, and a presentation of traditional food.

Traditional poetry, music, dances and songs were enjoyed by hundreds of visitors.

"Archaeological findings contribute to our cultural and historical self-awareness and can contribute to economic development," said Minister of Communications and Works Nicos Nicolaides, adding that it is up to everyone to protect Cyprus' cultural heritage.

The festival was organised by the Choirokitia Community Council.
