Woman Attacked with Acid
A 23-year-old Nicosia woman is in hospital after a man threw acid at her, burning her body and face, said police.
The 33-year-old Romanian ex-boyfriend of ambushed Alina Feraru as she was walking towards an Ayios Dometios bakery for lunch in Nicosia yesterday at 1pm. He threw the acid at her and then tried to attack her with a knife. Ayios Dometios police arrived quickly on the scene and arrested the attacker.
The victim - who is also from Romania - is being treated for her burns in Nicosia General Hospital where doctors say her condition is serious. Police said that the motive for the attack is being investigated and have not confirmed media reports that the man attacked the woman because she ended a relationship with him.
Nicosia crime police are investigating the case while the suspect has been remanded for eight days by Nicosia District Court.
