Unemployment Sees First Decline in 2010
The unemployment rate recorded its first decline in 2010 for the month of July, falling 1.4 percent to 23,218 persons, said the Cyprus Statistical Service.
When comparing the figures with July 2009, there was a 27.3 percent rise in the number of unemployed. The main sectors that have suffered from layoffs are construction, public administration, manufacturing, hotels and restaurants, education and real estate businesses.
The total labour force is around 402.590 persons and is made up of around 55.1 percent men and 44.9 percent women.
