Bulgarian Lost At Sea Found?

A missing Bulgarian man who was lost at sea at the beginning of August may have been found yesterday, said police, who are investigating a dead body pulled from the sea one nautical mile off the coast near Makronissos Beach.

"The body was in a decomposed state and we have not yet identified him, but it is probably the missing Bulgarian man," said a police spokesman speaking to

An autopsy by state coroner Eleni Antoniou has revealed that the unidentified man drowned and foul play has been ruled out, said the spokesman. But according to a report in the Sofia News Agency, the missing man's sister did not recognise the man as her missing brother after seeing the body. Her lawyer, Konstantin Parchev, said that he suspected murder because the missing man was an experienced diver and swimmer.

40-year-old Georgi Vasilev Salapatanov from Varna disappeared at sea earlier this month after falling overboard from the yacht he was sailing on with a Russian friend. An intensive search and rescue operation in the area of St. Raphael in Limassol failed to turn up any sign of him.
