Machairas Fires Arson - Interior Minister

A fire which destroyed areas of natural beauty in the Machairas area were caused by arson, said Minister of the Interior Neoklis Silikiotis.
"It was criminal, definitely arson," he said in comments to the media yesterday afternoon.
Minister of Justice Loukas Louka said that the fires had started in four different places at around the same time, indicating that they had been premeditated.
Firefighters using helicopters and fire engines fought the fires for six hours until around 7.30pm last night. Two members of the fire services were slightly injured and one square kilometre of pine forest was burned.
