President Attends Ceremony - Limassol Marina
President Demetris Christofias attended the cornerstone laying ceremony of the Limassol Marina, which is being re-developed into a sea resort with commercial, residential and recreational uses.
The new 350-million euro marina is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 and the first yachts would be welcomed during Cyprus' EU presidency.
If it is to face significant challenges successfully, Cyprus must develop new forms of tourism, including golf courses, conference centres, sports tourism, said Christofias.
The outlook for this year's tourism is 'cautiously optimistic', he said, and there is a reversal of downward trends in tourism revenue.
The aim is to increase tourism from new countries like Russia and to reverse the decline of traditional tourism from the UK, he said.
