Fire Destroys Warehouse - Limassol
Black clouds of bitter-smelling smoke hung over the Agios Athanassios industrial area in Limassol as firemen battled a blaze which broke out in a large warehouse at 4.10am this morning.
Firemen at the scene said they did not yet know how the fire started, causing damages estimated in the millions of euros. They were lucky that the winds were low at the time, so the fire did not spread to other factories and warehouses in the area.
No one was hurt in the blaze, which caused the roof to collapse completely and all the contents of the warehouses to be destroyed.
Flammable items that were stored included swimming pool parts, window blinds, clothing material and chemicals, said a fireman at the scene speaking to CyprusNewsReport.com. The warehouse space was shared by seven companies, including euroblinds and Lord, said an employee of a neighboring factory.
The fire is now under control and investigators are waiting for the heat to die down so they can enter the warehouse for examinations.
