August Tourism Revenue Up 2.7% yr/yr

august tourism revenueTourism revenue for the month of August 2010 rose to 241.1 million euros, up by 2.7 percent compared to the same month last year, said the Cyprus Statistical Service.

For the period January – August 2010 revenue from tourism is estimated at 1.05 billion euros compared to 1.03 billion euros in the same period of 2009, recording an increase of 1,7%.

In related news, tourism arrivals also rose 4.7 percent in September to 289,126 visitors. There was a sharp rise in the number of visitors from Russia, up 60.8 percent compared to the same month in 2009. Visitors from Germany rose 22 percent to 15,014 compared to September 2009. Tourist arrivals from the UK fell 6.2 percent to 137,473.

For the period January – September 2010 arrivals of tourists totalled 1,777,456, rising 1.3 percent compared to the same period in 2009, said the survey.
