CyprusNewsReport.com is a new current affairs source on Cyprus' political, environmental and cultural landscape with an innovative paradigm in online news which combines professional journalism and citizen journalism.
"We think of CyprusNewsReport.com as a combination of credible news and community-generated sites like Wikipedia." says Chief Editor Sarah Fenwick. "The idea is to have professional journalists generating the core news, and citizen journalism from socially-aware activist groups like non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as contributions from other subscribers interested in having their say."
Subscribers have their own accounts and are able to add content such as Blogs, stories of interest to them, Fora and Classifieds. The website’s members are expected to come mainly from the island’s 125,000 strong expatriate community, English speakers in Cyprus and the diaspora of Cypriots living and studying abroad. The number of visitors to the site is growing rapidly, with about 50% coming from abroad.
The site covers Cyprus Politics, People, Environment, Business and Education as well as a Classifieds section. CyprusNewsReport.com is environmentally friendly as it does not have an offline print version, leading also to lower running costs and benefits to advertisers.
Chief Editor Sarah Fenwick has extensive experience as a reporter working in the Cyprus media and for Thomson Financial News where she covered financial news in Switzerland. She has also reported on music, business and politics in Cyprus. She is active in the field of Jazz music and Internet Communications, putting her in the ideal position to commit her cultural, editorial experience and understanding of online media into building CyprusNewsReport.com.
CyprusNewsReport.com was founded in July 2009
