3,988 Speeding Tickets in Two Weeks

According to a statement by President Demetris Christofias on the occasion, there was a 31 percent reduction in the number of road fatalities by the end of 2009, and the number of injuries also fell by 51 percent.

In the last decade, 889 people were killed and 25,000 injured on the roads in Cyprus, he said.

Cyprus will soon draft a new Strategic Road Safety Plan for the period 2012 - 2020 with the aim of reducing road deaths by 50 percent, said the president.
