Nicosia Pedestrian Dies in Road Accident

A 63-year-old woman died in a road accident on the Tseri-Marki road yesterday afternoon at 5pm, said police.
Maroulla Kyriakou was taking a walk on the side of the road with a 68-year-old friend of hers when a car veered out of control and hit her. The driver of the car was a 62-year-old man.
The two women were taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where a doctor certified Kyriakou dead on arrival. Her friend was released after being treated in first aid.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police are investigating a hit-and-run accident in Kokkinothrimithia village. A 42-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a car driven by an unknown person, said police.
The driver of the car escaped the scene and investigators have appealed for information from anyone who saw the accident to call the Citizens Line 1460.
