Traffic Policeman Run Down by Motorist - Nicosia

motorist runs over policemanA 54-year-old traffic policeman was run down Sunday night by a motorist as he was carrying out traffic controls in Nicosia, said police.

Officer Constantinos Constandinou was on Kyrenia Avenue in Aglandjia when he flagged down a motorist. Instead of slowing and stopping, the motorist sped up, striking the officer as he passed him. He then fled the scene of the accident, said police.

The injured policeman was taken to Nicosia General Hospital where he is being treated for injuries to his arm. Nicosia traffic police are investigating the accident and searching for the motorist responsible.
