Captain, Engineer Killed in Sea Accident
The Cypriot chief officer of the Greek-flagged Aegean Angel tanker is now in a Bermuda hospital after a maritime accident that resulted in the death of Captain Bozoni Demetriou and engineer Athanasiou Papageorgiou just off the coast of Bermuda, said ship management company Arcadia.
The men were inspecting the forward deck after a storm when the tanker was hit by a wave 790 nautical miles from the nearest port of Bermuda. Cypriot chief officer Antonis Ioannou, 34, was seriously injured in the head and chest, while the captain and engineer were killed in the accident on December 30th, 2010.
Ioannou is being treated in King Edward Memorial Hospital in Bermuda after being taken ashore by the US Coast Guard by helicopter yesterday afternoon.
