German Cyclist Dead in Road Accident

A 47-year-old German cyclist has been killed in an accident on the winding roads near Kato Drys village in the Larnaca area, said police.

The tri-athlete was fatally injured in the accident after veering into the oncoming lane on the Vavla-Kato Drys road and colliding with a car driven by a 23-year-old man.

Jürgen Hesemann was due to leave the island after his holiday ended early next week. He was an active member of the volunteer Bonn firefighters, who published an obituary describing him as always friendly and helpful.
