Onsenal Drug for Polyps Withdrawn from EU - EMA

The European Commission has withdrawn permission for the sale of Onsenal - used to treat intestinal polyps - in the EU, said the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Pfizer, the manufacturer of the drug, could not prove its safety due to slow enrolment in an ongoing clinical trial. Doubts about its safety could not be dismissed, so Onsenal was banned.

Onsenal was marketed in all EU countries except for Bulgaria, Hungary, Malta, Romania and Slovenia.
