Brothers Injured in Car Bomb Blast

Two brothers were injured in a car bomb blast in what police say was a case of attempted murder in the Nicosia village of Tseri at around 4.45pm today Christmas Day.

The bomb exploded in a car parked on the side of the road as Andreas and Charalambous Gregoriou were walking by. The men, aged 37 and 34, were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment and are out of danger, according to police.

The high-explosives bomb in the four-by-four vehicle was set off by a detonator operated by remote control, added police.

"I don't suspect anyone and don't have any differences with anyone," said one of the brothers, Charalambous Gregoriou.

Investigators do not yet have any suspects or motives for the car bomb, they said. Nicosia police are seeking leads into who planted the bomb.
