Man Caught Speeding 216km per hour

A 34-year-old man was caught speeding at 216 km per hour last night, more than double the legal limit of 100 km per hour, said police.

The Limassol man was driving on the Nicosia-Limassol highway when he was caught and police said they gave him a ticket and let him go.

Meanwhile, another driver was clocked driving at 177 km per hour, but tried to escape when police flagged him down. After police chased him, the 36-year-old man stopped his car. A search revealed three computers, gloves, a government cheque and various tools for which the driver did not have a satisfactory explanation, said police.

He was arrested and taken to Limassol police headquarters where he is being questioned.
