Door-to-Door Census October 1st
A door-to-door census is set to start on October 1st to establish the population in the government-controlled areas, said Cyprus Statistical Service spokeswoman Dora Kyriakidou.
Census-takers will go from house to house with a questionnaire and will have a special ID identifying them, said Kyriakidou. The total cost for the operation will be 3.3 million euros and is expected to take 800 census-takers around one month to cover all households.
There is expected to be a similar undertaking in the Turkish-Cypriot community.
A website has been launched to inform the public, said the Cyprus Statistical Service (CYSTAT).
To see the website, which also has online application forms for employment, go to http://www.census2011.gov.cy (in Greek and English).
The last census was conducted in 2001.
