Internet Entrepreneur Launches AlpaDesigns Hats for Kids

Beatriz Savva is an Internet entrepreneur living in Limassol who has worked in online marketing and website development for the last decade and has just launched a new venture called AlpaDesigns selling soft alpaca wool hats for children and babies.

In the interview below she gives us her insights into how she sees AlpaDesigns - and describes the difference between alpaca and normal wool.

Tell us about your new venture with alpaca hats for children, where did the idea come from?

"Peru has so many unique and fantastic products. I had been thinking for some time to work with something Peruvian, unique and of great quality but wasn’t sure which one. It was early this year while browsing and shopping for my son’s winter clothes and accessories that I thought how much I would love to have some traditional chullo hats for him. That’s how the whole idea got started and AlpaDesigns was created."

Are they traditional in Peru?

"We have different models for girls, boys and babies. Some of our models were inspired in traditional Peruvian hats called “Chullos” which have been used since the pre-hispanic times in the Andes and have gained popularity in the last years. One characteristic that our hats have is that they all have soft cotton lining to ensure maximum protection from the cold temperatures and wind."

What is the difference between alpaca and wool?

"Alpaca is one of the most luxurious natural fibers. It is seven times warmer than sheep wool, breathable and has no lanolin which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca fiber is strong and resilient and has more thermal capacity than wool."

Where are they made? Are they handmade?

"All our hats are handmade in Lima, Peru by a small group of very talented artisan ladies."

How can someone order an alpaca hat for their child?

"Our hats can be ordered through our website at . We accept payments through Paypal and all major credit cards.

For residents in Cyprus who are interested in making a Christmas order, they can make their orders until November 10th at and payment can be made in cash when the hat is delivered."

How long does it take to arrive at its destination?

"Depending on the destination delivery can take between 2-3 weeks although we also have the option for express delivery when ordering through our website."

What is your background and do you have any other products from Peru?

"My background is in business and marketing. AlpaDesigns is actually my second business endeavor as I have also worked selling Peruvian oil paintings -"
