New Greek Foreign Minister Dimas Set for Cyprus Visit

stavros dimas visit cyprusMember of the new Greek interim government Stavros Dimas (ND) is set to visit Cyprus on November 22nd to hold discussions with President Christofias and his counterpart Erato Kozakou-Marcoulis.

Dimas took over from former FM Stavros Lambrinides after an agreement between Greece's leading political parties to form an interim unity government under Lucas Papademos in order to implement a controversial debt agreement with the EU/IMF that includes new austerity measures. He is the second new FM to visit Cyprus this year - Lambrinides held his position for just six months after his appointment during a Cabinet reshuffle.

Greece is struggling under hundreds of millions of euros of government debt that has become unsustainable amid a global and local economic slowdown and a wider Eurozone sovereign debt crisis.

During his visit, Dimas will meet with other political leaders including Yiannakis Omirou, house speaker, and Archbishop Chrysostomos II.
