Digital Agenda Explained - EU Commission Conference
European Commission officials are visiting Cyprus in late November, to discuss key areas of the Digital Agenda for Europe with targeted audiences and the public, said the European Commission Representation in Cyprus.
A conference is organised in Nicosia in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Works. The conference, entitled "Going Local II – A Digital Agenda for Europe and for Cyprus", will take place on November 25, from 8.30 to 14.00 at the Ministry of Economy, in Nicosia.
Conference language is English. The European Commission invites all stakeholders from the government, the business community, academia, the civil society as well as citizens themselves to join us in an open discussion on how ICT can help Europe and Cyprus tackle the challenges ahead. It is the second year in a row that the European Commission organises such information visit to Cyprus.
The general objectives of the conference are to:
Report on progress of the Digital Agenda in the past year;
Present the new Digital Strategy for Cyprus;
Identify challenges for the future;
Stimulate actions and commitments.
Key themes to be covered in the conference are:
* Digital entrepreneurship (emphasis on EU funding) – a presentation of the state of play on digital entrepreneurship in Cyprus, opportunities for funding offered by the EU and best practices from other EU countries
* Green ICT – ICTs allow us to control energy consumption, reduce electricity bills and protect the environment. In this section of the conference, there will be a presentation of an AHK pilot project for smart meters in buildings (both for electricity and water consumption). Moreover, there will be a presentation of European Commission activities on smart meters, water management and a Green Digital Map.
* eSkills – Many Cypriots do not use the internet because they do not have the skills to do this. In this section, there will be a presentation of the situation in Cyprus in relation to eSkills, as well as European Commission activities to help all Europeans take part in the digital era.
You can find a detailed programme of the Conference here.
In this year's conference, there is a greater focus on the local aspects, on what was achieved during the first year of the Digital Agenda for Europe and what it meant for Cyprus and on getting suggestions for new initiatives.
