Two Romanians Killed in Second Christmas Day Road Accident
Two Romanians, aged 54 and 57, were killed in Nicosia in the second deadly road accident within 24 hours during Christmas Day, said police. Their names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The victims were on Larnaca Avenue heading towards Aglantzia Avenue at around 10.30pm last night when another car cut into their lane. The driver tried to veer out of the way and entered the oncoming traffic lane, crashing into another car. The collision was severe, said police, and neither of them were wearing a seatbelt. Both were killed instantly, while the driver in the oncoming car was slightly injured.
It is the second deadly road accident within 24 hours during the holiday period. A 23-year-old man was killed on the Limassol-Paphos highway in the early morning hours of Christmas Day. According to police statements, it is likely that all three men would still be alive had they worn their seatbelts.
