Aradippou Foundling Died of Exposure - Police
Authorities said that the baby girl who was found dead and wrapped in a piece of cloth underneath a tree in Aradippou died of hunger and exposure to the elements.
The baby was found at 10.30am December 2nd and so far there are no suspects or explanations for the baby's death, said a police spokesman. The search is still on for the child's mother in nearby hospitals and clinics, and DNA testing has not been successful in pinpointing the baby's parents.
According to the latest information, an elderly woman called Aradippou police station saying she had found the child underneath an olive tree not far from a road. The baby was Caucasian, weighed three kilos and was born alive five to six hours earlier, said police. There were no signs of injury or mistreatment on the child's body.
The foundling was born healthy but did not survive a winter's night of cold winds and rain.
