Rainfall 130% Higher Than Norm In Last Two Weeks

cyprus rainfall jan 2012Rainfall in the last two weeks is a record 130% higher than usual for the period at an average of 383.3mm, said the Cyprus Meteorological Service (CMS).

There have been reports of rivers forming in roads in outlying village areas around Limassol and some fears of flooding, but overall, rain is always welcome on this normally dry island.

In Nicosia, rainfall was 153.3mm in the last two weeks, 96 percent higher than usual, and the biggest spike in rainfall since 1960 was in Limassol which had 353.9mm, or 130% over the norm, according to CMS.
