Pensioner Knocked Down, Killed in Road Accident, Klirou

A 74-year-old woman was knocked down and killed by a 20-year-old driver as she was crossing Makarios Avenue in Klirou last night at 7.50pm, said police.
Panayiota Papadopoulou was rushed to Nicosia General Hospital after the accident and pronounced dead on arrival, whilst the 20-year-old driver was tested for alcohol and taken into custody.
The young man tested negative for alcohol and is being detained for questioning, said police. Nicosia's traffic police department is investigating the fatal accident.
