Former President Vassiliou Hospitalised After Fainting Spell

george vassiliouFormer President Dr. George Vassiliou is in hospital for observation after fainting yesterday and doctors said that he is resting and there are no serious risks to his health.

The 80-year-old was taken to Nicosia General Hospital and examined by heart specialists.

A prominent businessman and respected economist, Vassiliou served as President of the Republic of Cyprus from 1988 - 1993. Following his term as President he became a member of Parliament from 1996 to 1999.

He runs the Middle East Marketing Research Bureau and served as a chairman of Ledra and Innovation/Leo Burnett Advertising Companies.

Vassiliou wrote The Accession Story: The Enlargement of the EU from 15 to 25 Members.
