Dhekelia Sailing Club (DSC) Trysail

sailing club Dhekelia Sailing Club (DSC) is launching its 2012 Sailing Season with a Trysail this Saturday, 17th March 2012.

The Trysail is for any and everyone wanting to learn to sail or interested in finding out more about the club or the range of training and courses available, or just joining the group for a pleasant sail around Dekhelia bay.

Come to the club this Saturday between 10am and 3pm. Club sailing instructors will be on hand to show you around the club and its facilities, answer questions about the club and the courses/training available and of course - to take you sailing in Dhekelia Bay.

There is no charge and a warm welcome is guaranteed. The club will do its best to ensure good weather - but this cannot be guaranteed.

The club is located on Agincourt Road at Dhekelia between Cessac Beach (Lambros Fish and Chips) and the Dhekelia Leisure Resort. Club Commodore Frank Short adds - DSC is open Weds afternoons and all day Saturday and Sunday.

It boasts some of the best sailing in Cyprus and has a range of boats for use including Laser Pico's, Laser 1's and Laser 2000's as well as Albacores, a fleet of 5 Bosuns and a Hobiecat catameran. The club is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) certified training provider for both sailing and power boating.

The first Sailing Course for 2012, is scheduled for the 2 weekends of 7/8 and 14/15 April and places are still available. The club is also running a Power Boat Course on 31st March/1st April. This will be the second such course of the year. On the first course this year (3/4 March) 5 military personnel successfully passed and were awarded RYA Level II Powerboat certificates.

One of the students was WO1 (ASM) Jan Dock, Joint Engineering Squadron, Cyprus Operational Support Unit; based at RAF Akrotiri. She says

"The PB2 course was not only extremely good fun, but it is well worth anyone with a love of water having a go at. The instruction was given in clear and easy practical steps and at no time did I feel pressurised into taking on more than I was able. As a diver this has now given me an added route to my water sports and I felt like I had achieved something very worth while. I would recommend it to anyone who does not have a fear of water"

As an added incentive - any military or entitled personnel who complete a course at the club also receives a years membership, which allows them free use of all the club facilities, the boats and one to one additional/refresher training. Further information regarding the trysail and the club can be obtained from Chris Dodds (tel. 99795832 or email )
