75-year-old Man Found Murdered in Paphos - Two Arrested

phidias kanaris murdered paphosUpdate: A 75-year-old man from Paphos was found lying dead in Amargeti-Pentalias road after being deliberately run down by a car or other type of vehicle, said police.

Amargeti resident Phideas Kanaris was spotted on the road by another resident who called the authorities at 8.10pm last night. Police found his empty wallet 70m from his body and his car was also found with the lights on, the engine switched off and the keys missing.

A 57-year-old man from Eledio village and a 30-year-old woman from Panagia village have been arrested for questioning on suspicion they had financial differences with the victim and motive to kill him. Kanaris had reportedly been unhappy with work done by the 57-year-old who is a mechanic, and there was a dispute over 500 euros charged over repairs to the victim's car. The suspect told Paphos criminal court that he had had an argument with the victim but that he had not deliberately injured him. Both suspects have been remanded.

State medical examiner Eleni Antoniou confirmed that the victim died of traumas incurred from being hit by a vehicle and did not rule out homicide.
