Skordeli, Brother Remanded Eight Days

Elena SkordelliElena Skordelli and her brother Tassos Krassopoulis have been remanded by Nicosia District Court for eight days on allegations they were involved in the killing of DIAS CEO Andy Hadjicostis.

The court entrance was heavily guarded during the hearing, which started at 11am this morning January 22nd.

Nicosia crime investigators requested their remand on the grounds that a witness - one of the suspects currently being held for questioning - broke down under questioning and confessed to meeting the pair twice. Evidence has been taken from their homes for forensic study.

Skordelli and Krassopoulis denied the crime police's allegations, which include contracting a hit on Hadjicostis and offering permanent jobs at Sigma TV to the killers, and have not been formally charged. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

In further news, police are reportedly looking into the possibility of more arrests connected with the alleged conspiracy to murder Hadjicostis. The authorities will investigate the siblings' phone and bank records in connection with the crime.

Andy Hadjicostis was shot and killed on January 11th, 2010 and three men are already being held for questioning. Another suspect, Grigoris Xenophontos, is on the run after an arrest warrant was issued last week. Kyprianou said that the latest arrests were made on a new witness' testimony.

Television presenter and talk-show host Skordeli reportedly requested police protection on Wednesday, saying her life was in danger after an attempt to sabotage her car. She is an ex-employee and holder of a significant number of shares in Sigma TV, one of the companies run by slain CEO Hadjicostis.
