Assad Has No Place in Syria's Future - EU
The EU has strongly condemned the brutal violence and massacres of civilians in Syria, saying that President Bashar al-Assad has not place in the country's future. The Foreign Affairs Council also condemned the shooting down of at Turkish F4 by Syria last week.
EU sanctions will be widened, with new people and entities to be subject to restrictions. All those responsible for widespread, systematic and gross human rights violations must be held responsible and the authorities in Syria have been urged to cooperate with the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the massacre in Houla.
Attacks against UN monitors were also condemned, according to a statement released after the Foreign Affairs Council meeting earlier today.
