Police Investigate Murder Confession Leak

Police are investigating the circumstances of a leaked confession by one of the major suspects in the murder of DIAS CEO Andy Hadjicostis, which was printed verbatim in Politis newspaper over the weekend.

Witnesses in the case expressed dislike and distress over the publication of Fanos Hadjigeorgiou's confession that he was met Elena Skordelli and her brother to plan the murder, said a police spokesman.

He added that it had not escaped investigator's notice that the confession was leaked to the media one day after it was handed over to the defense team during the hearing held Friday to press charges against the main suspects. According to legal circles, the publication of the confession is a breach of justice which could affect the suspect's right to a fair trial.

Four suspects are currently under remand on allegations they planned and executed the murder of 41-year-old media group CEO Andy Hadjicostis. Elena Skordelli, her brother Tassos Krassopoulis, Fanos Hadjigeorgiou and Andreas Gregoriou have been implicated in the crime. A hearing was held on Friday January 5th to press murder charges, but was adjourned until January 9th when a final decision on the charges will be announced.
