Water Pipes Burst in Nicosia Due To High Temperatures
According to a spokesman from the Cyprus Water Authority, 180 water supply pipes have burst in Nicosia since Friday.
Speaking to the state broadcaster CyBC, the spokesman said that the pipes had burst due to high temperatures and extreme differences in pressure during water cuts.
Three or four of the pipes which had burst were main suppliers of water, he added.
The island can ill-afford the wasted water, as it is still suffering water shortages after the drought in 2008.
