Five Arrests for Speeding

speeding arrestFive drivers were arrested for speeding on Sunday and Monday in a campaign to crack down on road accidents, said police.

Yesterday afternoon at 1.30pm, a 33-year-old man was caught driving 157km per hour on the Limassol-Nicosia highway and was arrested. Shortly aftwards, police flagged down a 31-year-old man who was driving at 165km per hour. According to police, they also arrested a driver who was clocked at 216km per hour.

The drivers were taken to the police station and charged in writing.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old woman is in critical condition with head injuries after a car accident in Tseri, Nicosia. The car she was in overturned and rolled over several times before ending up in a field just off the road. A 46-year-old motorcyclist is also in intensive care after an accident in Paralimni. The man was thrown off his motorcycle and fell onto the road, said police, adding that the circumstances are under investigation.
