Driver Arrested for Speeding 226 km/hour
Police have arrested a 24-year-old driver for speeding at an incredible 226 km/hour; more than twice the Cyprus speed limit of 100 km/hour, said a spokesman today.
A traffic patrol flagged the man down at 11.30pm last night on the Rizolias-Ayia Napa highway. He was arrested, charged and released pending a court appearance.Meanwhile, an 18-year-old driver was arrested last night for speeding at 145 km/hour in a residential zone in the Famagusta area. Traffic police said the man only had a learner's license.
162 drivers have been arrested for speeding since the beginning of the year, said police.
