This is a peaceful civil society action calling for Turkish troops to leave Cyprus, stop threatening the citizens here, and end the many decades of illegal occupation of a foreign country.
We believe that the Greek-and-Turkish and all other Cypriots can reunify and live in peace if Turkish troops stop segregating the two communities. We call on the European Parliament to sanction Turkey for its refusal to allow Cyprus to be independent and free.
It is time to end this illegal occupation. To end the related human rights abuses, and extensive damage done to the communities’ development and relations. It is time for Turkey to take its army away and start playing a constructive role in the Cyprus reunification talks.
This petition will be sent to the European Parliament once it reaches 10,000 signatures with the requested actions below:
1. Sanctions on Turkey for human rights abuses, war atrocities, ethnic cleansing and occupying a European Union member state, unless it withdraws its troops by the end of 2017.
2. Funding for bi-communal initiatives at all levels.
3. Establishing an EU Peace and Reconciliation Community board with the Republic of Cyprus that works to heal past wounds between the Greek-and-Turkish Cypriot communities.
4. Funding for initiatives to reintegrate the Turkish Cypriots into the political, social and cultural life of a re-united Cyprus.
