The Cabinet has committed 1.5 million Euros to subsidise MRIs and eye tests in the private sector to ease bottlenecks in the public health system.

The money comes from savings in the health budget, said officials.

Patient waiting lists and times are expected to be reduced by the initiative.

The system is in transition to a universal healthcare one, with many challenges facing the medical and administrative communities. There are simply too many patients for the infrastructure. The resulting bottlenecks and delays cause suffering for sick people who should be getting medical care.
