The new Fall ’17 Jazz Season starts strongly for jazz singer Sarah Fenwick, who is set to perform two premiere concerts at Sarah’s Jazz Club in Nicosia on September 15th and 16th, 2017. Bookings suggested; send an SMS or call to 9514711.
Lady Jazz and piano prodigy Dimitris Miaris take the stage on September 15th at 9:30pm.
Sarah Fenwick and Dimitris Miaris started collaborating in May 2017. Their performances have been lauded by jazz fans for their excellence, high-standard improvisation and classic jazz repertoire. Favourite jazz standards are performed in a way that respects the original song while taking it melodically and rhythmically in a new direction. Theatrical, dramatic, passionate and sensitive by turn, the duo’s performances are a fantastic way to spend an evening and create unforgettable musical memories.
Dimitris Miaris was born in Nicosia in 1991 and started playing classical piano from the age of six. By the time he was 16 years old, Dimitris had his first connection with Jazz through the “Jazz Futures” workshops that took place in Nicosia with great musicians such as Sacha Perry, Vahagn Hayrapetyan, Ari Roland and Chris Byars. From his early years, Dimitris Miaris discovered he has a natural feel for jazz bebop, swing, blues and ballads.
The concert on the 15th is followed by the performance of Jazz Origins duet on September 16th, 2017. Jazz Origins is the name of the CD and duet formed by Sarah Fenwick and Marinos Neofytou in 2012. Jazz guitarist Marinos Neofytou graduated from Berklee College of Music. He is a songwriter and improviser who creates music with roots in jazz, blues, and the ethnic sounds of the region. The compositions for the Jazz Origins CD recorded and written with Sarah Fenwick reveal a wide variety of musical influences, rhythmic approaches and inspired, silky guitar solos.
Sarah’s Fenwick’s singing career stretches back to 1992 when she started to sing professionally in Nicosia. Since then she has worked with most of the top musicians in Cyprus such as Marinos Neofytou, Charis Ioannou and Marios Toumbas, and many from abroad such as Scottish guitarist Jim Mullen, Italian guitarist Gigi Cifarelli, and Welsh pianist Gareth Williams. Sarah has performed in Italy, all around Cyprus, in the US, and the Middle East.
