Composer and jazz guitarist Tasos Stylianou attended the University of Utah where he received his PhD in Composition. An amazing guitarist with diverse range of skills, improvising comes as naturally as breathing to Tasos Stylianou. He is joined on stage by vocalist Sarah Fenwick for another unforgettable night of live jazz music.
Composer and Jazz guitarist Tasos Stylianou comes from the town of Morphou, Cyprus, and became a refugee after the Turkish invasion in 1974. He moved to New York at the age of 10 where he studied music at Mannes College of Music, followed by studies in Jazz and Contemporary Music at the New School for Social Research. After his BFA he studied composition privately with Henry Martin and later at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College where he received his MA in Composition. He then moved to Salt Lake City in order to study with Morris Rosenzweig. There he attended the University of Utah where he received his PhD in Composition. He has participated in many lectures, seminars/conferences and private sessions participating with composers such as Mario Davidovsky, Jonathan Harvey, Pierre Boulez, Paul Lanskey, Fred Lerdahl, Steven Mackie, Chen Yi and others.
Sarah Fenwick is an English-Cypriot jazz and blues singer who lives on the island of Cyprus. She is recognised as one of the country’s original Jazz voices. Nicknamed ‘Lady Jazz’, she has recorded four CDs; Jazz Attack, Love Life, Jazz Way and Jazz Origins. Her career stretches back to 1992 when she started to sing professionally in Nicosia. Since then she has worked with most of the top musicians in Cyprus and many from abroad such as Scottish guitarist Jim Mullen, Italian guitarist Gigi Cifarelli, and Welsh pianist Gareth Williams. She has performed in Italy, all around Cyprus, in the US, and Middle East countries like Israel and Kuwait.
