Major Cypriot names playing at Sarah’s Jazz Club in Nicosia December 1st & 2nd, 2017.

Two of the leading bands in Cyprus are playing at Sarah’s Jazz Club on Friday December 1st and Saturday the 2nd. The singular Alexandre Gagatsis Quartet perform on the 1st, starting at 9:30pm. In their personal, unique way, this postbop-inspired group plays compositions by Wes Montgomery, Dexter Gordon, Horace Silver and Jim Hall, along with a selection of songs from the American songbook. Enjoy the silvery sound of the vibraphone played by Alexandre Gagatsis combined with one of the island’s best rhythm sections with drummer Ioannis Vafeas and bassist Irenaeos Koulouras, and contemporary guitarists Tasos Stylianou.

On Saturday 2nd music lovers are taken to the peak of jazz saxophone performance with the Ioannou-Vafeas Quartet live. Recording artists and international Cypriot jazz names Ioannou-Vafeas Quartet have performed in many countries, most recently at the Syros Jazz Festival. In 2017 they released their superb CD ‘Bridge of Locks’ with compositions by American saxophonist Chris Byars. The group will play songs from their new CD and jazz standards.
