Cyprus at Peace Would Be Model for Tolerance in Region - Anastasiades, Cameron

If a reunification deal is reached between the Greek-and-Turkish Cypriots, it would be a model for the whole region to follow in which Christians and Muslims can live in peace, according to statements from President Nicos Anastasiades during his meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron in the UK.

"If we can demonstrate that dialogue and good faith and good discussion can reach agreement that would be a great thing for Europe, a great thing for Cyprus and a great thing for the world," said Cameron.

The heads of state discussed the Syrian refugee crisis, EU reform and the Cyprus problem, in addition to energy security.

Commenting on the Cyprus reunification talks, Anastasiades said:"If we shall manage to solve it, it can be a model for the whole area; how co-existence between Muslims, Christians and so on can work."

Peace talks are set to intensify in November and the next months are crucial for an agreement, said the president in earlier comments.
