British Paedophile Jailed in Cyprus for Five Years

The light five-year prison sentence handed to a 59-year-old British paedophile in Paphos has shocked the community.

The convict found a poor family in his neighborhood. He then systematically groomed the vulnerable 11-year-old girl with gifts and money before sexually abusing her. The child was from a broken home and he took full advantage of the fact that she had no one to protect her from monsters like himself.

Police found ample evidence against him, including child pornography in his house.

In the past, the courts have doubled the prison time for child molesters while they were in jail, so it can only be hoped that it will be the same in this case.

Why such light sentences for child molesters? Aren’t those children’s lives destroyed? Their trust burned up in the flames of sickness? If the law cannot defend the vulnerable, then of what use are ethics?

Other paedophiles must be watching and having a good laugh thinking that Cyprus is an easy place to find vulnerable kids and the sentences are short if they get caught. Paedophiles are not even named by the media, because the police and courts do not give out their names. The intention is to protect their victims’ and families’ privacy, but what it does instead is to increase the chances they will easily find more victims once they are released. With good behaviour, the British man could be out in two or three years, and his neighbors would never know he committed a serious crime.

There is also no sexual offenders registry here, so even those most affected by sex offenders - like schools and neighbors - cannot find out if one is living in the area.

I don’t know what prison is like for child molesters, and can only hope that the destruction they send out into the world comes back to them.

Because five years is not the sentence that his victim will be living through.

She will be serving a life sentence in a prison of insecurity, psychological problems and shame.
