Coronavirus update: Seven New COVID-19 Cases, Total of 1021 Confirmed
July 13, 2020The number of new coronavirus COVID-19 cases in Cyprus rose suddenly to seven on July 12, making a total of 1021 infected since the first cases were confirmed in March.
This development comes after several weeks of daily reports ranging between zero to three cases, according to information from the Health Ministry.
Five of the new cases were found in patients referred for testing by their personal doctors but details of their location or how they may have contracted the disease were not given.
Cyprus has almost completely relaxed coronavirus restrictions, with the exception of indoor live music venues, most venues, hotels and outdoor events are allowed to operate normally albeit with reduced attendance and precautions like masks and gloves for the serving staff.
The rise in new cases is an unwelcome reminder that this disease is not going away without a vaccine, continued proactive public health measures, self responsibility and vigilance.
There is increasing evidence that COVID-19 is airborne, meaning it can remain in the air after someone sneezes, coughs or talks without a mask, said the World Health Organisation.
This means a stronger emphasis on good ventilation and cleaning systems for indoor venues, offices and other public buildings.
