Why Does the COVID-19 Delta Variant Spread So Fast?

New research shows that the COVID-19 Delta variant spreads much faster because it infects people with a virus load 1000 times higher than other variants, said Nature Magazine, citing a University of Hong Kong study.

This makes the Delta variant doubly contagious.

Yesterday, the Health Ministry reported another three deaths and 1,046 new COVID cases. The Delta variant triggered another wave following the earlier UK variant.

The difference between the two waves is that younger and unvaccinated people are now in hospital for COVID-19 treatment. Around 90 percent of the latest hospitalisations are unvaccinated patients.

Contrast this picture to that of June 7th, when there was a record low number of new COVID cases.

In just a month-and-a-half, the Delta variant has triggered a tidal wave of surging new cases and hospitalisations.
