Moldovan national Raisa Resetco, 69, was killed in a road accident on the Astromeritis - Troodos road in Nicosia district at 9pm on July 3rd, said police.

The Astromeritis resident was struck and fatally injured by a car driven by a 90-year-old man as she was crossing the road.

Even though visibility must have been low at 9pm, what a 90-year-old was doing driving on the road in the first place is a question for the authorities. The driver, whose wife was a passenger in the car, tested negative for alcohol.

Raisa Resetco was rushed to Nicosia General Hospital but did not survive her injuries.

The 90-year-old has been arrested as part of the police investigation into the causes of the accident.

He could face manslaughter charges.
