Remember Me Thursday
Remember Me Thursday® is a global awareness campaign that aims to unite individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world to be the one voice for stray and orphaned pets in need of forever homes.
The movement was set up three years ago Helen Woodward of Helen Woodward Animal Centre. CEO Mike Arms said: “My heart breaks for those beautiful people working in animal welfare who are forced to take the lives of the pets they love. I believe lighting a candle for the orphan pets will be a way for people to let the world know how much they love them, and the awareness can help in increasing adoptions and decreasing euthanasia.”
Since its launch over 100,000 people globally have lit a candle each year on the fourth Thursday in September and in 2014, 138 countries took part. Grass root events have been created and CyprusNewsReport.com is collaborating with Even More Special (http://annagcyprus.wix.com/even-more-special) to represent Cyprus annually.
This being our first year we encourage all of you to light a candle today and send a photo to [email protected] so we can add them to our website albums. We want this project to grow on our island to encourage people to adopt from the shelters reducing the hundreds of orphaned animals euthanized each year and shine a light on the thousands of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption.
International celebrities such as Katherine Heigl, Alicia Silverstone and dozens more from all areas of the entertainment industry share the “opt to adopt” message on social media and thanks to your participation from today Cyprus will also add its voice.
